For years now, we’ve heard about Rep. Bob Goodlatte’s two pieces of legislation, reintroduced annually. Each sounds great but fail to fully address the problems.

His “Balanced Budget Amendment” does everything except actually call for mandatory cuts in the size and breadth of government. Instead, it limits spending to 20 percent of the economic output of the U.S. In other words, the more prosperous we become, the bigger our government becomes.

Goodlatte’s “Abolish The Tax Code” legislation sounds fine, too, but he demonstrates his half-hearted commitment to achieving this goal by routinely failing to co-sponsor anything to replace the mess we have now. We know Goodlatte doesn’t understand FairTax. Neal Boortz called him out for deeming the plan “regressive.”
